The shortlist
1. Shopmium — best overall
Shopmium has 2,500+ branded products with cashback offers, working across major UK supermarkets (Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons, Waitrose). Buy the product, photograph the receipt, receive cashback to PayPal or bank within ~48 hours.
£10 minimum withdrawal. Occasional high-value offers (£3–£5 off a single product).
Important: Shopmium charges a £3.99 monthly account-management deduction after 180 days of inactivity. So if you stop using it for 6 months, they'll start taking £3.99/month from any cashback credit. Not a scam — it's in the terms — but worth knowing.
2. CheckoutSmart — best for continuous offers
CheckoutSmart runs daily offers across all major supermarkets. Offers are usually £0.50–£3 per product. Cashback to PayPal or bank.
£5 minimum withdrawal. Receipts usually approved within a day.
3. GreenJinn — best for healthy products
Focused on healthier products — organic, free-from, plant-based. If your shopping already leans this way, GreenJinn has better offers than Shopmium or CheckoutSmart.
£5 minimum withdrawal. Smaller product catalogue but useful for specific brands.
4. SnapMyEats — food + dining
Covers both grocery and restaurant receipts. Smaller volume of offers but useful if you eat out often.
5. Shoppix — receipt-scanning rewards
Not product-specific — Shoppix rewards you for uploading any receipt. Lower per-receipt value (£0.01–£0.10) but works on everything. Points convert to gift cards.
How much can you actually save?
Realistic monthly cashback for a UK household:
- Casual user (checks apps once a week) — £5–£15/month
- Regular user (checks offers before each shop) — £20–£40/month
- Optimiser (plans meals around offers, buys for storage) — £40–£80/month
The big variable is whether you buy offers on products you were going to buy anyway. If you shift your purchases to products with active offers, savings are high. If you buy offers on things you wouldn't normally buy, savings are negative.
How to use them well
- Check offers before shopping, not after. Buy the products on offer rather than hoping they appear.
- Photograph receipts immediately. Some apps have a 7-day claim window.
- Keep receipts until cashback is confirmed. Some apps request a re-upload.
- Stack with loyalty cards. Nectar, Clubcard, and Morrisons More stack with cashback apps.
- Focus on multipacks and long-life products where you can buy ahead.
Common mistakes
- Buying offers on things you don't need. The #1 way to lose money.
- Not checking offer expiry. Some last only a few days.
- Shopping at the wrong supermarket. Not every offer works at every store.
- Forgetting to reach £10 before Shopmium's inactivity fee kicks in.
- Ignoring the app for weeks. Small balances sit unused.
What about receipt-scanning apps like Fetch and Receipt Hog?
Those are US-first apps. Fetch doesn't operate meaningfully in the UK. Receipt Hog has limited UK coverage. For UK users, the four apps above (Shopmium, CheckoutSmart, GreenJinn, Shoppix) are the practical core.
