Why PayPal matters
PayPal takes the friction out of small payments. You can receive a few pounds without waiting weeks for a bank transfer, and you can spend it immediately with any retailer that accepts PayPal or send it to your bank in a day or two.
The alternative — gift cards — locks your earnings into a specific retailer. Bank transfers are slower but usually free. PayPal sits in the middle: fast, flexible, universal.

PayPal fees on survey payments
Receiving money on PayPal as a UK personal account is free for most payment types. If a panel sends money as a "goods and services" payment (rare), you may be charged a small percentage. Most legitimate panels send as "friends and family" or an equivalent that avoids fees.
You can withdraw PayPal balance to your UK bank account for free (standard 1–2 business days) or instant for a 1% fee.
What about gift cards instead?
Gift cards often pay a "bonus" — 5–10% more than the cash equivalent. For example, a panel might offer £10 PayPal or £10.50 Amazon. If you'd spend the money at that retailer anyway, the gift card is the better choice. If not, PayPal offers flexibility worth more than the 5% bonus.
What about crypto payments?
Some GPT platforms (Freecash, Swagbucks, PrizeRebel, ySense) also offer crypto withdrawals. Rates are usually lower than PayPal payouts because of network fees. If you want to hold crypto, this is a convenient route. If you want pounds, stick with PayPal.
